I‘ve finished my walk to Timmies for my morning coffee and newspaper. In today’s local paper, The Niagara Falls Review, there’s a story about how the number of visitors to Niagara Falls during March Break are stronger then ever. This doesn’t surprise me. During my many years in the hospitality industry, I always found when times were tough people still took time to enjoy themselves. Our destination is especially popular because there are so many things to do in Niagara Falls with the family and it’s easy to get to being close to large metropolitan areas. Visitors from nearby the United States also receive and extra bonus of about 25 cents on their dollar. But ask before you pay to make sure you get the full benefit of your dollar. Your best bet is to exchange your U.S. dollars at a bank before you spend it in Canada.
Even during the Depression, folks were still visiting the Falls. This photo was taken in the 1930s.

frankrz what a good idea...... you must include more information
Nick Hi, I would like to know how many visitos visited Niagara Falls in 2007 and 2008. Please post a link if you can. Thanks Nick
George Nick, Sounds like your doing some type of marketing project. The latest visitation figure that I have been able to obtain from the local tourism association is for 2007. They list visitation at 12 million. From past experience, it's a hard figure to arrive at. Most hoteliers are reluctand to disclose occupancy publically. When I worked for The Niagara Parks Commission many years ago we had counters over the roads conting vehicles entering into the park. In each car we assumed there were 3 people. That figures was taken daily and at the end of the year the number of assumed visitors that entered the park was recorded. Not to sleek, but at least we had a figure tio rest our hat on. Hope this helps.
Jessica Hi - Do you know if the Falls will be darkened for Earth Hour this Saturday?
George Jessica, I'm not sure. I will try and get an answer this morning about what lights will be turned out in Niagara Falls this Saturday. I'll get back to you as soon as I know.
George If you're aroound Niagara Falls on Saturday, March 28th you can expect to be in the dark from 8:30 until 9:30 pm. Many businesses ,including the lights on the falls will turn their lights out for the hour as part of the world-wide Earth Hour iniative.
Jessica George - Thank you so much for finding that out!
Dave Warwood Look at the cars in this picture. The photo was taken in the 1950s.
George Dave, Opps, I goofed. Goes to show I'm human. I do have similar photos taken in the 30's
