In Niagara Falls history, three people have been recorded as going over the Canadian Horseshoe Falls without any form of protection and living to tell about it.
The first was seven year old Roger Woodward who accidentally on July 9, 1960 went over the Canadian Horseshoe Falls as a result of a boating accident. He was wearing a bathing suit and a life jacket. He was rescued by the crew of the Maid of the Mist with only minor injuries.
Wearing only a jacket and a pair of jeans 40 year old Kirk Jones went over the falls. He was successfully rescued from the Niagara River below the falls and suffered nothing but a few scratches. Initially he said he was trying to commit suicide but later changed his story to say he was a Niagara Daredevil. Regrettably, I have listed him in my book, Daredevils Over Niagara as the last of the 16 different daredevils that have gone over the falls between October 24, 1901 and October 20, 2003. Five of these people lost their lives in the attempt.
The last recorded person to go over the falls remains unidentified. It was on March 11, 2009 that a male survived his plunge (he later said he was trying to kill himself). He was rescued below the falls with the combined efforts of Niagara Helicopter owner/ pilot Ruedi Hafen and Niagara Parks Police.

Gloria Hildebrandt I've just discovered your blog, George, and I'm fascinated by your wealth of knowledge. I plan to spend more time reading all your previous postings. My magazine Escarpment Views is going to have to start covering Niagara Falls. Our mandate is to feature the whole length of the Niagara Escarpment, and it looks like you could be a great resource for us. Maybe we can even work together sometime.
