Have you ever heard of a Fragrance Garden for the Visually Impaired? If you haven’t, I’ll going to let you in on a well-kept secret. Niagara Falls has one of the best and it’s found just outside the Niagara Falls Parks Floral Showcase just five minutes off the Niagara Parkway above the Falls.
This sweet-smelling paradise consists of plants with textures and delightful fragrances. All of the plants which are planted about 4 feet from the ground have Braille labels where those in a wheelchair can learn more. A bubbling fountain, pathways and benches contribute to this wonderful experience. Admission is free.
Years ago when this first opened I happen to mention this to a blind person who was in a chair visiting the Niagara Gardens Greenhouse (now, Floral Showcase). I went with him and his friend to the garden. As he started to experience the garden with his fingers he started to cry. It was a moment I always remember with joy.
