I know summer is winding down when I hear Niagara’s grape harvest has begun.
Flat Rock Winery in Jordan is one of the first to start picking Chardonnay grapes for sparkling wines. Winemaker Ross Wise says, “This year’s crop looks great, with good, healthy, nice ripe fruit. This year’s early September is also helping grapes retain intense aromatic flavours”.
Between Sept 16th and 25th the 60th annual Niagara Wine Festival takes place in Niagara. There are over 100 events including free concerts, wine tastings and seminars. The highlight of the festival is the 60th annual Grand Parade that takes place on Saturday, 24th in downtown St. Catharines. If you can get to each I’ll promise you’ll have a grape time!
