Drive 9.6 kilometres (6 miles) north from Niagara Falls along the Niagara Parkway and you’ll come across a Niagara gardens icon…The Floral Clock.
This large outdoor clock, just north of Sir Adam Beck Generating Station No.1, was built in 1950 by Ontario Hydro (now Hydro One). It was inspired by the famous floral clock built in 1902 in Edinburgh, Scotland. Westminster chimes and speakers are housed in the ivy-clad tower which rises above the clock dial at the rear.
Since 1977 The Niagara Parks Commission assumed responsibility for security patrols and the planting and designing of the massive of face of the clock. About 19,000 plants go into the face. The clock chimes on the hour and quarter hours.
Take time to set your watch with a visit. While you’re there drop a few coins in the fountain found in the front of the clock. The money is distributed by the NPC to various Niagara charities.
