HISTORY ALONG THE NIAGARA RIVER RECREATION TRAIL

I was recently trying to put some order to my extensive library of books and articles and came across Bill Wilson's small booklet, "Plaques Along the Niagara River Recreation Trail". What a gem this is if you're interested in Niagara history. I have no idea where you can get it but it was published by The Niagara Parks Commission in 1993.
This intriguing booklet, which consists of about 48 pages, tells about the various plaques found along this 58 kilometre( 35 mile) paved trail(it began to be built in 1986) which runs parallel to the Niagara River from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie. He explains the trail can be divided into four sections: (1) Niagara on the Lake to Queenston,(2) Queenston to the Niagara Spanish Aero Car,(3)Chippawa to Black Creek and (4) Black Creek to Fort Erie.
The trail is not maintained during the winter months but when the weather starts to warm up, and it will soon, put on a good pair of walking shoes or tune up your bike and travel the trail to learn about Niagara's history. Each section will take you from one to two hours to cover depending if you're walking or cycling. There are about 71 stories found on these plaques to read along this lovely meandering path.

Since your blog is the only link off the Tourism website when one clicks on Niagara River Recreation Trail, could you include some information as to where one could get onto the trail? Tourists are reading the Tourism website & although your blogs are interesting, they're not exactly informative re: the actual trail. I'm having a real hard time finding a map, or guide to how to experience the actual trail (where to park, rest points, sights to see along the trail). I mean, isn't a tourism site supposed to supply that? Sorry to ramble on your blog... just frustrated.

Gena, Sorry, you don't find the blog informative. I don't know of any place where you can get the information you are seekin. As you travel the Niagara Parkway from lake to lake you can get on the trail just about anywhere.Why not try to travel it in sections and put a small booklet together about the information you seek. If you do,I could mention it in this blog and you might be able to sell some copies. Just a thought.

George, Gena, There is plenty of information available online at niagaraparks.com providing all kinds of trail information. I think you may like to make this a a standard link from this site and I think it wouldn't be very useful for Gena to re-create all the information that already exists online.
