That right folks. Niagara Falls, New York is right across the border from Niagara Falls, Ontario. We're known as The Sister Cities.

I decided to take a walk across the International Rainbow Bridge this past weekend to check out the views of the Canadian city from that end. Once you cross the bridge(you'll need a passport or a Nexus Card) it's about a half hour walk over a few small bridges to Goat Island. Here I got a view I normally don't see of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls and Niagara skyline. It was wonderful. Goat Island is part of New York States Park system. It was a nice way to spend a few hours.

Admittance to the park and parking at this time of the year is free. Check it out..that's goes for locals as well.

This is a photograph taken from Goat Island of The smaller Bridal Veil Falls in the foreground,Luna Island separates this falls from The American Falls.

The Rainbow Bridge connecting Canada and the United States is seen in the distance behind the observation tower found on the American Side of the border.

I'm a German and I also want to visit the canadian side of the falls. What do I need to have / to do to cross the border from US side to the canadian side and of course back to the US side? Do I have to have a visa? Do I do need only my german ID-Card or an RFID - passport? Any other docs? Thanks all for your replies. B.Rgds, Willi

George
Willi, All you'll need is your German Passport and a spirit of adventure. No Visa, unless you intend to work here.Have fun.

Nikki
Is it possiable to cross this bridge with our luggage so we can continue our journey to new york, it would be a nice way to leave canada, Thanks nikki

George
Nikki, Yes, you can cross the Canada/U.S. border with luggage. But, there are restrictions. You will have to check out the U.S. Customs web site for those restrictions. Crossing the International border is relatively simple if you have your passport and adhere to the restrictions. I hope this helps.

George Brown
fantastic photographs, i have never been to the American side, however my wife and i are comming to Toronto for a holiday in July 2010, so hopefully we will see a different side to the falls then.

Why does it seem that there are conflicting reports on whether a passport is needed to enter Canada? I have read on the Niagra Falls tourism site that if you are US citizen you dont need a passport only proof of citizenship and ID. How do we know which is correct?

Patricia
My comments relate to Canadians who are entering the United States from Canada. These requirements are correct. Check with your authorities in the United Sates about requirements for U.S. citizens to enter Canada.
