2012-01-06 10:30:38
| It's been in the works for a few years but plans to recognize this nasty war which occurred on the Niagara border between Canada and the United States are now underway.
A recent New Year's Eve Levee at Fort George in Niagara on the Lake got the three - year celebration started.
However, the official opening of this celebration will be held on June 15 to 17 at the fort. One event this year there will be a reenactment of the Battle of Queenston Heights on October 12 and 13th.
Other major battles of this war took place at Chippawa, and Lundy's Lane. One of the bigger events this spring will be the official opening of the newly renovated Niagara Falls History Museum on Lundy's Lane. This is the site of the Battle of Lundy’s Lane where thousands of soldiers lost their lives. Both sides claimed victory.
These year long events emphasize the two-hundred year friendship between Canada and the United States since this conflict.
