I’d bet only a few people know the name Nikola Tesla but he’s the brilliant mechanical/electrical engineer that developed Alternating Current and it happened right here in Niagara Falls, Canada in the late 1880’s. Alternating Current (A.C.) changed the way we live.
The system was first put into actual operation on the night of November 15, 1896 when a switch was thrown from Niagara that enabled power from Niagara to energize the transmission system on nearby Buffalo, N.Y.
Today, there’s a statue in the Table Rock area near the Canadian Horseshoe Falls that pays tribute to this amazing engineer and his invention.
